Informational panel for Botanical Garden Cluj
I’m ready to finish my latest work for Botanical Garden Cluj. SOR Romania and Botanical Garden agreed to exhibit an informational panel about birds in the Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden, officially Alexandru Borza Cluj-Napoca University Botanic Garden.
The info-board is presenting the four season in the birds life and how people can help them. In urban environment the cut down trees, the pollution is all in the disadvantage of birds, derogating their habitats. As friends of birds we can help birds to settle in our garden.
The info-board size is 120×90mm, will be printed on outdoor inkjet media.

Ural Owl digesting
I paint a lot of owls. I love the owls for their brownish colors, and the subtle patterns of their plumage. Here is a new Ural Owl – (Strix uralensis) sitting on a branch and impassively digesting. After sketching the owl I started to paint the eyes and head. Continued with the feathers. The last thing was branches of the tree and the leaf.
Painting dimension: 23×30,5 cm / 9″x12″
Paper: Fabriano Watercolour, Grana Fina – Cold Pressed
Paint: Acuarela Colibri – Combinatul Fondului Plastic
Here is little animation showing the painting phases.

Lookout Woodlark
My latest painting is this Woodlark (Lullula arborea). I love his brown colors. Watercolor painting. Format A4

Eurasian lynx resting on branch
One of my friends asked me to paint an Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) for him. I started my work sketching the animal to get familiar with the lynx anatomy. Here are a couple of the sketches.

Used a large format (56×38 cm) heavy grain 300gsm Water Colour paper. This was my first big format watercolour painting.
The first lines.

Started with the lynx head and eyes.

Painting the fur of the lynx hair by hair.

Shadows of the body.

Next step the branch.

I was uncertain about the background colors, first I used a light Yellow Ocher and Raw Umber mixture.

I was dissatisfied with background so I decided to use a dark Burnt Umber mixed with Black to to emphasize the Lynx. I spent a lot of time painting the details of the branch bark.

I made some little improvements to the eye and the fur of the animal. Here is the final painting!

Detail of the lynx head.

Here is the final framed work.
